Our Strategy

The 2025-2030 Rockinghorse Strategy

Summary

At Rockinghorse Children’s Charity our vision is for a world where children are healthy and happy.

While we work towards this world, we will continue to fund projects, programmes and people that enhance the care and support given by our incredible colleagues in the NHS and beyond.

Our purpose as a charity is to help them do more.

Three years ago, we set out our three-year strategy to cover 2022-2025, which set out our goals and how we aimed to achieve them.

And now, looking forward, we have developed a new strategy that takes us from 2025 – 2030.

To develop our latest strategy, we again listened carefully to the people we support, our community, our colleagues and Trustees and together we have developed four priorities that we want to focus on for the next five years:

  • Impact
  • Engagement
  • Profile
  • Finance and Resources

The four pillars of our latest strategy

So read on to find out what our latest plans are, how we will manage in an ever-changing charity landscape and how we will continue to aim for a world where children are healthy and happy.

What we have achieved

During the last three years we have achieved a great deal and now, as we launch our new strategy for 2025 – 2030, we can reflect on these achievements: Since 2022 we have:

  • Doubled our income to around £1.2 million
  • Delivered 76 projects, an 85% increase
  • Embedded our work in the hospital from champions to leadership teams
  • Created and implemented a new staffing structure
  • Created a strategy cycle and supporting workplans
  • Put new processes and policies in place
  • Updated our branding and created a brand-new website
  • Expanded our project and service delivery

Our vision, mission and values

Our vision

Our vision is a world where children are healthy and happy

Our mission

We fund and deliver transformative projects and services that enhance the care and support given by our incredible colleagues in the NHS.

We invest in state-of-the-art treatments, life-saving equipment, critical mental health support, additional people, ground-breaking research and inspiring spaces that go above and beyond for children.

We work in partnership with the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust and other charities to ensure every young patient and their family receives the best possible care when they are unwell.

Our values

We care: We care about children, young people, their families, and all those that look after for them.

We always act with kindness and compassion. We care about the NHS and all those who work there. We care about the world and want to make it a better place.

We’re passionate: We are passionate about making life better for children, young people and their families.

If there’s something we can do to make life better for children and their families, we’ll go above and beyond to do it. We are passionate about our community and all those in it.

We’re honest: We are open and honest about our work, what we fund and how we raise funds.

We work hard to ensure money goes to projects that genuinely make a difference. We involve our supporters in our projects and share our learning and experience wherever possible.

We’re supportive: We help wherever and however we can, we support children, their families, we support Health Care Professionals (HCP) and paediatric services, and we support each other as team members.

We work with and support other charities and organisations who are doing great things for children in Sussex.

We’re collaborative: We prioritise working with people and organisations wherever possible.

We work with experts and others for the best possible outcome for sick children and their families. We love a partnership that prioritises impact and avoids duplication.

Our strategic ambitions

For our next strategy, we have developed four strategic pillars that we will be focusing on over the next five years.

These ambitions will help us:

  • Save Lives: provide critical support that saves lives and improves health outcomes for babies, children and teenagers.
  • Live Well: deliver services and projects that support the physical and mental health of patients, families and Health Care Professionals (HCPs).
  • Be Fit for the Future: ensure the children’s hospital in Brighton and children’s wards all over Sussex can support every child and family that visits.
