Rockinghorse were recently proud to have been the chosen charity for the EVOLVE [25] technology conference at the Brighton Corn Exchange.
This one-day event brought together the brightest minds in technology, business and education to explore how technology can drive progress.
The day was full or great ideas and inspiration from game-changing tech to digital solutions solving real-world problems where exhibitors and visitors were able to build connections and learn more about how technology can support a huge range of industries.
Technology also forms a vital part of healthcare, from MRI scans to blood oxygen monitors, robotic surgery to artificial joints, there are constant advancements in the way support is provided.
Not only does this help speed up diagnosis, treatment and health outcomes, they also help patient’s overall experience of hospital treatment.
And this is even more important for children’s healthcare. Which is why the conference was a great opportunity for us to share how we fund and deliver fantastic bits of tech to support thousands of children and young people.
We took the chance to use our stand to showcase a range of items that we had funded for the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton.
To start with we had a couple of light display robots that beam coloured patterns and stars onto the walls, and a colour changing light up bubble tube, both of which help children with additional sensory needs to feel calm and relaxed whilst receiving treatment.
We also took along a LEGO model of an MRI scanner which the Play Team at the hospital regularly use to talk young patients through what they can expect from a scan.
And finally, we had an iPad with the Little Journey’s app installed. The app provides engaging, interactive and age-appropriate content designed to psychologically prepare and support families through healthcare procedures, improving their experiences and health outcomes.
The app provides virtual hospital tours to explore the different spaces and learn about their particular procedure. It includes bite-sized bits of information to provide more information and offers distraction and soothing activities for when a patient needs a moment of calm.
These were just a few of the different amazing bits of kit that we fund and deliver to help speed up treatment, making it easier for doctors and nurses to treat their patients, reducing waiting times and getting children back home quickly.
During the conference we spoke to lots of different people who were interested to find out more about the support we offer and how we might be able to work together to provide more cutting-edge projects with a healthcare setting.
Amanda Hetherington, Head of Partnerships at Rockinghorse, said, “It was a really great day and we really enjoyed meeting people with such interesting skills to share.
“Thanks so much to Grace Prior from Silicon Media for choosing us as the event’s charity partner and enabling us to showcase the work we do within the local community. We’re really looking forward to being involved next year!”
