Volunteer for Rockinghorse
We’re looking for a volunteer to help with our community and challenge events across Sussex.
Job Description
- Post Title: Community and Challenge Events Volunteer
- Responsible to: Supporter Engagement Manager
- Purpose of Job: To support the community and challenge events fundraising at Rockinghorse, across admin, fundraising, marketing and project management.
- Location: Rockinghorse Children’s Charity is based in central Brighton. Our work is across Sussex.
- Contract: Part time (hours negotiable). Unpaid.
About the role
Rockinghorse Children’s Charity is seeking a volunteer to help support our Supporter Engagement Manager with community and challenge event fundraising. Throughout the year we have people who take on challenge events such as marathons, bike rides and walks for Rockinghorse. Community fundraising includes people fundraising in schools, in their local groups and organising their own fundraising events, to name a few examples.
We want to make sure that everyone who decides to fundraise for Rockinghorse has the best experience possible, and the Community and Challenge Events Volunteer will help by supporting with admin, stewardship and marketing.
This role is voluntary and unpaid, although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. Full training will be given, and this is a great way to expand your knowledge of the charity sector and develop new skills.
Duties of the role
Events support:
- Helping out on any stalls or tables we have at events in the community – sharing information with people about the charity.
- Cheering and supporting at challenge events such as bike rides, walks and runs.
Admin support:
- Recording communications to Community and Challenge Events supporters on our database, eTapestry.
- Sending out event packs including vests and a good luck note before challenge events.
- Contacting supporters in the run up to their fundraising activity.
- Writing and sending thank you cards to supporters who have fundraised.
Marketing support:
- Sharing information of upcoming Community and Challenge Event fundraising opportunities with contacts such as local businesses, schools and groups.
- Raising awareness of Rockinghorse by sharing charity posters within your local community.
- Researching and collating lists of new audiences to share upcoming challenge event with.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Good people and communication skills.
- Able to work using your own initiative.
- Able to be a team member.
- Happy to work indoors or outdoors (depending on the event).
- Keen to learn about or make use of skills in events management and support.
- Commitment to Rockinghorse Children’s Charity’s purpose and work.
