Wilf was born almost 14 weeks early. Here his mum Becci tells his story…
“When Wilf was born almost 14 weeks early we were in a state of shock. It was also very frightening. Weighing just 1lb7oz, Wilf was not breathing when he was born, so he was resuscitated and rushed to the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) even before I could see him.
In the coming days, weeks and eventually months, my husband Mark and I sat at Wilf’s bedside just hoping and praying that he would make it through the next 24 hours. It was touch and go for a while, but every day, Wilf made progress and after 117 days our little fighter was ready to come home.
We know that Wilf simply wouldn’t be here without the amazing care and treatment that he received on the TMBU. The doctors and nurses were not only extremely good at their jobs, they were also a fantastic support to us as parents. However, as gifted as they are, it cannot be underestimated how vital it is that TMBU staff have access to the very best equipment available.
Now over a year down the line, he is doing marvellously. He is such a determined and happy little boy, we are so proud of him.”
