Video Laryngoscope

Video Laryngoscope

Inserting breathing tubes into newborn infants is a particularly difficult skill for neonatologists and paediatricians to learn, but it’s something that newborn term and preterm infants often need intubation to save their lives.

So having a clever bit of kit to help train this vital skill is really important.

We are funding a video laryngoscope for the Special Care Baby Unit in Princess Royal Hospital. This is a clinical and training tool that uses a small camera to provide a magnified, visual view of the larynx on a monitor, allowing healthcare staff to better visualize the airway during intubation, especially in challenging situations where direct line of sight might be difficult.

Having this equipment will mean staff are able to provide more rapid and successful intubation when it’s needed the most.
