Portable DVD Players

Children coming into the Emergency Department at The Alex sometimes need to stay in the Short Stay Unit (SSU) for up to 24hours while they are either waiting for treatment or to be moved into a ward.

During this time it can be boring and scary for the young patients, so having something to help keep their minds occupied or help them relax is really important.

Normally this would be something like watching a film, but the unit only has on TV, which is too big to fit into the SSU bay, and can only be used by one patient at a time.

So, we are funding six portable DVD players for the beds in the SSU, to make waiting time a bit easier for the young patients.
