Off-treatment oncology psychologist
Off-treatment oncology psychologist
We have funded a specialist oncology psychologist at the Royal Alex since 2018 to help children and their families with a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
Having cancer as a child is something that can have an enormous impact on the whole family. Life becomes a constant stream of appointments and treatment, not to mention having to see the person you love the most in pain.
And this is why many parents slip into autopilot so they can hold it together and just get through each day.
This service has proved incredibly successful, even being shortlisted in the national Children and Young People Now Awards.
However, due to the demand, we weren’t able to offer it once the main treatment had finished. But often this is when a family really needs the support to deal with their trauma and try to return to a more normal life.
So, we are funding a new off-treatment psychology service for cancer patients. Which means that rather than getting stuck emotionally, unable to move forward, they are able to talk about their experiences and feel more positive about their future.
Thanks to our supporters for funding the first two years of this project.
