Diabetes Support
People living with diabetes are up to three times more likely to report symptoms of depression. A
holistic approach to care, including consideration of emotional wellbeing as well as physical health,
is vital in helping children and young people to accept their diagnosis and manage their health as
they grow up.
We have funded a range of equipment including digital carbohydrate weighing scales to accurately measure the right amount of food, specialist sensory equipment to help with needle pain, hypoglycaemic episode kits to help families manage their child’s condition, Frio kits to keep insulin cool and safe, and Diawipes that help clean fingers properly for blood prick tests.
This project also included a computer tablet so staff can demonstrate useful apps to patients to help them manage at home, and six forest school and creative sessions, providing opportunities
for children and young people living with diabetes to get together and make friends, helping
them to feel less isolated and alone.
All of these things will help children with diabetes feel less isolated, more confident about managing
their condition and so more hopeful about the future.
Thanks to the Sandra Trust for funding this project.
