YBS donation pays for life-saving defibrillator
Thanks to a donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, we’ve been able to purchase another life-saving defibrillator for The Connor Saunders Foundation.
We received the £1,200 donation to support our work with The Connor Saunders Foundation after being recommended by colleagues at the Society’s Brighton branch. The defibrillator has been bought for Cottesmore St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, on the Upper Drive in Brighton.
The Connor Saunders Foundation was set up in memory of 19-year-old Connor Saunders from Brighton who was killed in 2012 in an unprovoked attack. The Foundation campaigns for more people to sign up to donate their organs and also for defibrillators to be provided in schools, as well as providing the necessary first-aid training.
Our Chief Executive, Ryan Heal, said: “Thanks to the £1,200 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, we have been able to provide the Connor Saunders Foundation with a life-saving defibrillator. We were delighted to be joined by Sarah Rowntree from Yorkshire Building Society’s Brighton branch for a visit to Cottesmore St Mary’s Catholic Primary School to present this vital piece of equipment.
“Having a defibrillator on site can be life-saving and we believe it is so important for schools to not only have access to one, but to also learn how to use it. Thanks to the generosity and support of local businesses such as Yorkshire Building Society and its Charitable Foundation, we are proud to be able to ensure this happens.”
The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme, where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.
Sarah Rowntree, Customer Consultant at the Brighton branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “At Yorkshire Building Society we pride ourselves on providing real help for real lives and that doesn’t just mean helping people to save for their future and buy their own homes – it also means supporting those charities which make a real difference in our community. I’m delighted that the Charitable Foundation has been able to support Rockinghorse and The Connor Saunders Foundation to provide this potentially life-saving defibrillator.”
