Following an online and in-store customer vote, we are delighted to announce that we have been chosen as Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year for four of their stores in and around Brighton.

The stores who are supporting us throughout the next year, are; Sainsbury’s Local North Street in Brighton, Sainsbury’s Local Western Road in Brighton, Sainsbury’s Local Carden Avenue in Hove, and Sainsbury’s Local Western Road in Hove.

This year’s Local Charity scheme began at the end of May, when Sainsbury’s staff shortlisted a maximum of three charities to be put forward to the customer vote. Rockinghorse received the most votes and will be supported with a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness-raising from the four stores. This is the second time that we have been selected as Charity of the Year for the Sainsbury’s Local Western Road store in Hove.

Liz McCluskey, Schools and Community Fundraising Manager from Rockinghorse, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us. Becoming Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year at four of their stores in Brighton and Hove will make a huge difference to our charity. We’re looking forward to the partnership and working closely with the staff.”

Martin Thomas, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Local North Street, added: “I’d like to say congratulations to Rockinghorse. It’s great to be working with a new charity this year. My colleagues are really excited about the partnership.”

The Local Charity scheme is now in its eighth year and has raised over £11million to support local charities since 2009.

As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, we raise money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment, as well as ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs.
