Sussex Cricketer’s fundraising success
Staff from The Sussex Cricketer smashed their fundraising target for a second year, in a bid to help us support sick children in Sussex. The pub on Eaton Road in Hove nominated Rockinghorse as their Charity of the Year for 2014 and 2015, and have chosen to support us again this year.
The team from the Sussex Cricketer held a number of fundraising events throughout the year to meet their target of £6,000. These included weekly quiz nights, a ‘Meet the Players’ event in partnership with Sussex County Cricket Club, an evening event with The Gay Men’s Chorus and Manager Danny took part in the Bright10 10 mile road race in October.
As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) in Brighton, we raise money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment whilst ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs.
Staff from the Sussex Cricketer, including Manager Danny Warwick, visited the Alex earlier this week (Monday 15 February) to present Liz McCluskey, Schools & Community Fundraising Manager at Rockinghorse, with a cheque for £6,044.38. They were joined by Emily from the Play Team at the Alex, who spoke to the team about how the money they raised makes a real difference to poorly babies, children and teenagers at the hospital.
Danny from the Sussex Cricketer, said: “In Rockinghorse we have found a charity that is close to all our hearts. We have had some great fun over the years arranging a multitude of different events and would like to thank all those that have worked with us to achieve these numbers including all our regular guests. Ultimately however, as I raise the bar and fundraising expectations every year, it’s the passion of my team that has driven this and I’m extremely proud of what we have all achieved, here’s to raising £7,000 in 2016!”
Liz from Rockinghorse, added: “We are overwhelmed with the support shown by all the team at the Sussex Cricketer who have chosen to support us for a third year! Their fundraising efforts over the last couple of years have been incredible and we are extremely grateful. We look forward to working with the pub throughout 2016.”
