Our latest Superhero Drop 360 at British Airways i360 in Brighton took place last week, raising over £11,000.
The event saw 26 brave participants, including our very own CEO Donna Holland and our Chair Dr Oli Rahman, enjoying the beautiful evening sunset to take part in the abseil from the i360, all in the name of charity.
The Drop 360, operated by the i360, saw each fundraiser securely lowered, some on their own and some in tandem, from the open pod doors 450ft above Brighton seafront, taking in spectacular view of the city. Each one enjoyed the sweeping 360-degree views as they gently glided down to beach level to be cheered on by their supporters.
The event took place in the early evening of Wednesday 14 September and raised over £11,000 for Rockinghorse.
Along with participants from local companies including ILG, Sopro and Clearline Recruitment, a group from the Outta Puff Daddys, the male only dance crew from Brighton, also took to the skies and took the plunge.
Paul Jukes, leader of the group, also helped out on the DJ booth on the evening, announcing each superhero as they drifted back to the ground. Paul, who’s crew name is JUKEBOX, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to take part in such a joyous event and support a wonderful local charity. All being parents, it’s a charity close to our hearts and would welcome any opportunity to support Rockinghorse again in the future.”
Dr Rahman, dressed as Spiderman for the occasion, did a tandem jump with Rockinghorse CEO Donna Holland. Dr Rahman said: “As a Paediatrician I have first-hand experience of seeing the impact that Rockinghorse has within the Children’s Hospital.
“It feels great to be able to help by doing my bit and helping raise some money knowing that it will be put to good use. I must confess, my heart was racing when sitting on the edge, at the top of the i360 looking down, but it was definitely worth it knowing that between all the participants, raised over £11,000!”
Emma Cunliffe, Supporter Engagement Manager for Rockinghorse, was really pleased with how the evening went: “After a rainy morning I was a bit worried about whether we would be able to go ahead with the drop but luckily the sun came out and it turned into a beautiful night.
“It was a wonderful to welcome so many people who wanted to challenge themselves and raise dome money for their local children’s charity. Their support means that we can fund so many great projects for children spending time in hospital or those who need extra support in the local community, so thanks to everyone who took part.”
