Staff Wellbeing at The Alex

Staff enjoy some much needed treats!

New Wellbeing Service at the Royal Alex provides some treats for the hard-working staff.

As part of our new Wellbeing Service, a two-year pilot we are funding at The Alex, this week we hosted the second of three planned special wellbeing events aimed at supporting staff relaxation and rejuvenation.

Like all NHS staff, the team at The Alex work incredibly hard to look after their young patients and don’t often get the chance to be looked after themselves.

But part of this new service includes focusing on what wellbeing support might be beneficial to staff.

So earlier this week we offered 15 staff members the opportunity to enjoy a free 10-minute massage, provided by a therapist from Little Jasmine Therapies and Spa. Staff were able to sign up for this neck and shoulder or upper back massage to help them get rid of any tensions and stress they might be feeling.

Along with the massages, we also provided a delicious, free Mediterranean lunch supplied by Nostos Greek restaurant, enjoyed by over 100 staff members. The meal was a perfect complement to the relaxing experience, offering a delicious and nutritious break in the day.

Lisa, a member of the Play Team at the hospital really enjoyed the lunch. She said, “It was a really nice thing to have provided for the staff. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the lunch and the food was lovely. Thanks so much to the Rockinghorse team for organising such a lovely treat!”

Emilie Linnard, Children & Women’s Divisional Management Team, also came along and enjoyed the chance to see other staff from across the hospital. She said, “Getting to see colleagues who I know rarely take a moment for themselves and stop for lunch tuck into a delicious and balanced meal was really wonderful.

The importance of recharging their batteries is something that so often gets pushed aside, and this is the opportunity they need for a bit of TLC.  It’s also really lovely to see consultants and cleaners alike mix in this environment.”

The Wellbeing Service, kindly funded by the Cullum Family Trust, is aimed providing support around mental health and wellbeing for children, young people, their families, along with the staff, during their time in the hospital.

Our Wellbeing Manager Jess Linton is currently working hard to organise and plan a range of different activities and events throughout the coming months to support young patients and their families, and enhance staff wellbeing, providing moments of relaxation during the busy workday.
