Chloe Charlish from Hove recently completed a half marathon walk along the famous south coast route to raise money for Rockinghorse.

For many 11-year-olds, the summer months mean visits to the beach, lazing outdoors in the nice weather or spending time with friends. There’s not many who would willingly use their spare time to walk 13.6 miles in aid of charity.

But that’s exactly what Chloe from Hove decided to do. As a fan of the work we do, she wanted to support us and despite never having walked a half marathon distance before, she really looked forward to the challenge.

Chloe said: “I wanted to do a fundraiser for a local charity, and I love what Rockinghorse do. I hope I can raise some money for the charity, to help some children and young people.”

So, on a lovely day Chloe and her dad Dan set off on their route and after 5 hours 45 minutes and over 30,000 steps they finally reached their goal.

Dan said: “We followed the South Downs away, starting at 10.00am just to the west of Devils Dyke and then up through Saddlescombe, Poynings, Pyecombe, Ditchling Beacon, and all the way to Housedean Farm Camp site to finish.

We had driven our camper van to the campsite the day before, so it was there when we arrived and we finished the walk with a camp fire and bbq at the campsite. Perfect!”

Dan is really proud of her achievement, especially as she has raised over £600 so far, smashing her initial £250 target.

It’s always wonderful to hear stories about people who fundraise for us, but when it’s young people who want to help other young people in their community, it’s especially inspiring.

So, if you’re bored over the summer holidays and want to set yourself a new challenge, perhaps even as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Award or just for a personal goal, we can help you plan your event, set up your fundraising page and give you all the support you need to make a difference.
