Sir Geoff supports charity lunch
Hat-trick scoring hero Sir Geoff Hurst was the special guest at our Best of British charity sporting lunch in Eastbourne earlier this month (Friday 16 September).
Sponsored by Rix & Kay Solicitors, the 1966 World Cup footballing legend attended the event at The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne, which welcomed nearly 200 guests who were treated to a three-course lunch followed by an entertaining talk from the man himself. Sir Geoff (pictured above with Rockinghorse CEO Ryan Heal and Bruce Hayter from Rix & Kay) recalled his World Cup winning story on what is the 50th anniversary since England’s win.
Guests also took part in a number of fundraising games including ‘heads and tails’, a raffle and an exclusive charity auction of rare sporting memorabilia. The event raised over £10,000 towards a very special project we are supporting in Eastbourne. Rockinghorse is best known for its work with the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) and Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) in Brighton, but also raises money for children’s centres and services elsewhere in the county.
Funds raised at the Best of British event in Eastbourne will be donated towards The Bungalow children’s centre on Sorrell Drive in the town. The centre provides residential care for children who have developmental delay, autistic spectrum disorders and severe physical disabilities, providing a home from home service for youngsters who are unable to live with their families.
Ryan Heal, Chief Executive of Rockinghorse, and organiser of the Best of British event, explains: “Funds raised from the event will be spent on creating an upgraded garden facility for the children to use. We’re aiming to create more opportunities for the children to enjoy by providing facilities and leisure apparatus that they are not otherwise able to access in the local community. Our wish is that the young people at The Bungalow will be able to pursue outdoor interests to improve their overall physical fitness and emotional wellbeing.”
Our Best of British charity sporting lunch will be making its next appearance at the Hilton London Gatwick Hotel on Friday 4 November. The event will be welcoming special guest speaker, former England and Arsenal footballer, Paul Merson. For more information or to book a table, please click here.Back to news
