Santa’s dash to raise cash

A sea of Santa’s could be seen along Hove promenade on Saturday 9 December, as over 600 people took part in the annual charity Santa Dash event.

Raising money for Rockinghorse, the festive fundraiser welcomed participants of all ages (and in some cases, their canine friends) for a 5km fun run and 400 metre dash in chilly but bright conditions.

Dressed head-to-toe in a Santa suit, many runners added extra festive items, such as tinsel and baubles, to their outfits. For those running with prams, the opportunity to decorate them was not missed, with even a reindeer recreation crossing the finish line as the Santa’s made their way along the seafront to Hove Lagoon and back again.

The Rockinghorse 50th anniversary bus, donated by Brighton & Hove Buses, also made an appearance and proved to be the perfect viewing platform for those wishing to get a better view of the runners.

Over £3,500 has been raised so far, with money still being donated. All funds raised will support our Christmas appeal for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) in Brighton. We are raising money to provide the specialist neonatal unit with new digital imaging equipment, allowing doctors to take instant X-rays of preterm babies at a lower radiation. The new equipment will significantly improve the overall experience of a preterm infant, who typically requires multiple X-rays to be taken during their admission.

Hannah Seltzer, Challenge Events Fundraising Manager at Rockinghorse, said: “Huge thanks to our wonderful Santa Dash participants for braving the cold to join us for the Christmas challenge. This is our third year of a charity partnership with the Santa Dash Brighton team, and we are delighted to receive such fantastic support from all involved.”

We’re appealing to runners who would like to join our Brighton Half Marathon team on Sunday 26 February. To find out more and request a registration form, call Hannah on 01273 330044 or email hannah.seltzer@rockinghorse.org.uk.
