We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in this year’s national Charity Times Awards in the Charity of the Year category.
These awards, organised by Charity Times, are now in their 27th year, honour the outstanding work of charities across the UK, and showcase organisations big and small that work, day in, day out, to improve the lives of children and young people in their communities.
Our entry is in the category of Charity of the Year with an income of under £1m and outlines the work that we do as a charity within the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and across the county during the previous year.
Our submission described the impact we have had over the last year including supporting more than 190,000 children, recruited 50 champions across the NHS, supported 13 different healthcare settings across Sussex, and funded and delivered 65 projects including toys, life-saving equipment, child-friendly spaces, ground-breaking research, activities, and additional staff.
Our dedication to supporting babies, children and young people, aims to alleviate pressures for families and NHS staff alike.
Our CEO Donna Holland is really proud that despite being such a small local charity, our impact is being recognised on a national level. She said, “Our amazingly dedicated team work incredibly hard every day to support children and families in our community, and to be recognised for all their hard work in this way is fantastic.

We are proud to have an ever-widening impact on our local community, utilising the funds we receive as best we can: we work closely with our beneficiaries and ask for feedback to inform future programs and improve service quality.
Being shortlisted for the Charity Times Award showcases the remarkable and essential impact on the local and broader community Rockinghorse has had, showing the work is indispensable in filling a critical gap.
We are pleased to share the shortlist with five other inspiring charities, all of whom do excellent work in supporting their young communities (Bright Futures UK, Her Safe Network, Reframe Coaching, The Elephant Group, The Wren Project and Tough to Talk). We are delighted to have received recognition for our work and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a win at the award ceremony, 23 September at the London Marriot Hotel.
