Nine runners raised over £10,500 for Rockinghorse in the Brighton Marathon last weekend.
This year’s Brighton Marathon took place around Brighton and Hove last weekend and saw over 14,000 runners taking part, the largest number since the event began in 2010. There were fantastic running conditions during for the whole day with lots of sun and dry conditions.
The Rockinghorse support crew set up our cheer point right near Hove Town Hall at the 19-mile mark, ready to cheer on all our fabulous runners at one of the toughest parts of the race.
As usual, there was a party atmosphere with music playing, cowbells being rung and lots of cheering, and it was fantastic to see all the Rockinghorse runners, giving them a boost as they went on to the final part of their marathon route.
One of the runners taking part was Elliot Quant, Director at ACE Scaffolding Contractors Ltd, who raised an amazing £3,035 running his first marathon in aid of Rockinghorse following a successful Brighton Half Marathon back in February.
Elliot said, “Wow! What a weekend. I’m incredibly proud that I’ve completed the Brighton Marathon! It was always on my bucket list to run a marathon and I’ve finally done it.
“This was a real personal challenge, but crossing that finish line made every mile, every early morning and evening run completely worth it.
“Most importantly, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. Their encouragement, messages and generous donations kept me going when it got tough.
“The run itself was the hardest thing I think I’ve ever done in sport. But I enjoyed every minute of it and I can’t wait to run another one.”
“I’m especially proud to have run in support of Rockinghorse. Knowing that this effort contributes to such an important cause made the experience even more meaningful.”
Another Rockinghorse runner was Alan Davies, Marketing Director at
Ellipse. After the race he said, “It was tough but incredibly rewarding. Running a marathon in my home city did not disappoint!
“The atmosphere in Brighton and Hove was brilliant, and with family, friends and colleagues cheering me on along the route and knowing I was running for Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, I was buzzing to get over the finish line.
“Thank you to everyone who wished me good luck and has donated. You’ve helped me raise £1,450 to support children and families in Sussex.”
And Rockinghorse runner George Harris, pictured in the main image above, said, “I’m incredibly proud of the amount I was able to raise for such an important local charity and want to thank everyone who supported my fundraising!”
Jules Billings, Fundraising Manager at Rockinghorse, was at the Rockinghorse cheer point for the whole race to support all our runners.
She said: “It was an absolutely wonderful day on Sunday! The Brighton Marathon is always such a great event, with a lovely atmosphere, and being able to cheer all our runners made it even more special.
“We are so incredibly grateful to every single one of our charity runners. Their commitment, training and fundraising makes a huge difference to our work. Without this support, we wouldn’t be able to carry on helping as many children and families as we do.
“Thanks to every single one of them, and all the people that sponsored them to complete this mammoth challenge!”
