Rockinghorse prepares for Royal Visit

Details have been announced of a special visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra to the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Royal Alex) in Brighton.

Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra – The Queen’s cousin – has been the hospital’s patron since 1954. She will commemorate 10 years of the ‘new’ Royal Alex since its move to the Eastern Road site in 2007, and 50 years of Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, during her visit on Wednesday 19 July 2017.

Rockinghorse is the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alex and is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. The charity raises money for items necessary to every child’s treatment; from furnishings and toys for the wards, through to cutting-edge diagnostic machines and life-saving equipment.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra will meet with Marianne Griffiths, Chief Executive of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust; Dr Ryan Watkins, Consultant Neonatologist and Clinical Director of Children’s Services at the Royal Alex; and Rockinghorse’s Chief Executive, Ryan Heal. She will be greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Mr Peter Field, who will be joined by civic dignitaries including the Mayor of Brighton and Hove.

Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra will spend time visiting staff, patients, and their families during a tour of the dedicated Children’s Emergency Department and the hospital’s surgical ward, before being welcomed at a reception hosted by the Royal Alex and Rockinghorse.
