Premature twins inspire Tough Mudder challenge

Rebecca Jabbar has two very special reasons for supporting Rockinghorse – her twin baby girls Leila and Abigail.

This September, Rebecca will take part in the Tough Mudder challenge in a bid to raise £2,500 for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) in Brighton and its sister site, the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Haywards Heath, of which we are a vital supporter. Rebecca talks about her inspiration behind the upcoming challenge…

“Leila and Abigail were born at 26 weeks and three days, each weighing just 1lb 12oz. Unfortunately, both girls experienced difficulties and spent five weeks in the TMBU before being transferred to SCBU once they were strong enough to be moved, for a further seven weeks. The exceptional care and attention provided by staff to both my girls, means that they have celebrated their first birthday 100% happy and healthy.”

Leila and Abigail are pictured on the day of their birth (above), having their first combined cuddle with Rebecca (also above), at their first birthday in March this year (top of the page), and most recently, pictured last month (below).

Rebecca is part of the BNI Heart of Sussex – a business networking hub for Mid Sussex – and will be joined by fellow member James Teale for the fundraising challenge. Together they will take part in the Tough Mudder London South event which takes place at Holmbush Farm near Crawley on the 29 and 30 September. The course will host a variety of tricky obstacles that participants will tackle through wooded trails, undulating fields and gritty mud.
