They came, they saw, they conquered! 61 runners took part in the 26th Brighton Half Marathon for Rockinghorse last Sunday (28 February) to raise money for sick children in Sussex.

Almost 13,000 people ran the 13.1 mile course along Brighton seafront which stretched as far as Ovingdean and Hove lagoon. Olympic legend Sally Gunnell who lives in Steyning, was the official starter for the event.

Together, our Brighton Half Marathon runners have raised an incredible £20,119 for ongoing projects at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) in Brighton. Those running for the charity included a team from The Grand hotel in Brighton, Fortis Law, Oban Digital and Argus crime reporter Rachel Millard. They were joined by Rockinghorse Chief Executive Ryan Heal and Schools & Community Fundraiser Liz McCluskey, both crossing the line in 1 hour and 55 minutes.

Ryan, who ran a personal best, said: “This is my third Brighton Half Marathon and the atmosphere along the course was electric, it really is a great event in our city and supports so many wonderful charities. Thanks to each and every one of our 61 runners for helping us to raise an incredible amount of money towards our projects at the Alex – we’re now looking forward to the full marathon in April.”

As the official fundraising arm of the Alex, we raise money for items necessary for every child’s treatment; from furnishings and toys for the wards through to cutting-edge diagnostic machines and life-saving medical equipment. We strive to give children access to the very best medical care and attention in surroundings that are better suited to their needs.

We still have a few places available for the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 17 April. Registration is £49 and we’re asking our runners to raise £450 in sponsorship. To sign up contact Hannah Seltzer on 01273 330044 or email hannah.seltzer@rockinghorse.org.uk.
