Loud Shirt Brewing Company, a brewery based in Brighton, have created a special Quadrophenia beer and is donating 10p from every can sold to Rockinghorse.

Loud Shirt was set up by Martyn Batchelor and Mike Thomson in 2016 after being friends for over thirty years. The business was started in a garden shed but has now grown to a ten-barrel brewery in East Brighton with a capacity to produce 6,000 pints a week.

Martyn and Mike create a range of vibrant, exciting beers, hand-picking the best quality ingredients and conditioning their beers for longer than average to create a great flavour. They brew their beers as part of the Sussex Brewing Project, a collaboration of micro brewers who share a passion for the finest quality craft beer and who donate their profits to good causes.

When they were setting up the company, Mike and Martyn wanted to make sure they became part of the local area. As Mike explains: “We want to become a community brewery and support good causes across the city like Rockinghorse.

“We heard a lot of good things about Rockinghorse and were aware of the good work that they do for children in Sussex. So, we chose them as our first charity partner, donating 10p to them from every can of Quadrophenia sold. It’s a difficult time for charities and businesses at the moment but we want to try and keep supporting where we can during this challenging time.”

They chose the memorable name partly down to the fact that the beer is made with four different hops and has an alcohol content of 4.4% and from the film of the same name based around Brighton.

The beer is available as a guest ale in several pubs around the city but the best place to sample it is at the brewery itself. In their tap room you can buy cans and kegs as well as sampling their wares on draft in their social distanced, table service tasting room in Kemptown.

Stella Buckingham, Fundraising Events Manager at Rockinghorse, is hoping to be able to promote the Quadrophenia beer at some of the charities future events: “At the moment we aren’t able to fundraise in our usual way as all our events are being postponed or cancelled. However, we are really hopeful that we can start organising beer tastings in the new year and showcase this fabulous beer to more of or supporters.

“But it’s great that in the meantime people can sample the beer at the Loud Shirt Brewing Company themselves and that they are still able to support Rockinghorse in this way. We greatly appreciate the support that Loud Shirt are giving us during what is an incredibly difficult time for everyone.”
