Local HSBC branch shows support
Staff from HSBC on North Street in Brighton took part in a charity quiz night last month and raised over £900 for Rockinghorse.
Support from local businesses in Brighton, Hove and across Sussex, provide vital support to our charity and help to make a real difference to the lives of sick children in the county. Alys Hodder, Senior Customer Services Officer at HSBC Brighton North Street, explains how the branch has been supporting us over the last couple of years. Alys, said:
“Rockinghorse has always been a special charity to the HSBC Brighton North Street team. Mike, our Sales & Service Manager, raised £1,000 back in 2014 by taking part in the Brighton Marathon, then last year, Mike and colleagues Becky and Dee raised over £2,500 doing a skydive!
“My colleague Becky approached me in January about Rockinghorse, to see if I wanted to get involved in raising money for them this year, and to meet with them to find out more about what they do. I jumped at the chance – having been involved in charity event planning in my previous role in the Worthing branch – and I was already looking for a new charity to help get involved with.
“We both met with Analiese, Head of Fundraising at Rockinghorse, who told us all about the charity and how they support the local children’s hospital in Brighton. We were invited for a tour of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and were joined by our Branch Manager Pete Turner, and colleague Matt, for a visit to show us how our donations help make a difference.
“The Alex is an amazing state-of-the-art facility that offers pioneering paediatric care and provides in-patient facilities, including intensive and outpatient care, as well as a dedicated Children’s Emergency Department, for children across the whole of the South East.
“My manager Pete and I have a huge fear of needles, so we can appreciate how scary it might be for a child needing treatment. We sat with some of the nurses who have these lovely teddy bears with built in tubes as demonstrations for the children. These show how they take blood and really help to put a child’s mind at ease and as well as helping to relieve any anxiety ahead of an operation.
“Following the visit, my colleague Becky and I arranged a ‘Sussex Coast Quiz’ night that was held on Thursday 19 May at a local pub. 60 of our colleagues and their friends and family joined us for the evening event, and the branch managers donated some great raffle prizes – including a lovely summer hamper and Komedia comedy night tickets. We raised £904.00 for Rockinghorse!
“Despite having a dodgy microphone, it was a fun entertaining night and great to catch up with colleagues we hadn’t seen in a while. ‘The CC O Dears’ won the quiz to claim their shiny trophies (a great effort from Brighton’s Premier and Business team!) and ‘The Rusties’ happily took the wooden spoons having come last place.”
