Introducing the Rockinghorse bus!

We are very pleased to announce that Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus have chosen Rockinghorse as their Charity of the Year, and are celebrating the new partnership by dedicating a bus to us!

The Rockinghorse bus, which marks our forthcoming Golden Jubilee anniversary in 2017, pays homage to Dr Trevor Mann, founder of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton – and bears his name on the front. Dr Trevor Mann founded our charity in 1967, recognising that there was a real need for additional resources to improve health care for sick children and babies.

Brighton & Hove Buses Managing Director Martin Harris, said: “Rockinghorse is a charity close to the heart of many of our colleagues and customers. We are really excited to celebrate the launch of our new partnership with this special dedicated bus. Many of Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus employees have family members who have received help from the charity and are backing the bus companies’ choice of Rockinghorse as our Charity of the Year.”

Bus company Senior Supervisor Nick Stepney, added: “In February, my granddaughter was born 14 weeks premature and weighed only two pounds and six ounces. The Trevor Mann Baby Unit was instrumental in nursing her through early development to reach a healthy weight. The care and consideration she and the whole family received was fabulous. We couldn’t thank the Rockinghorse enough for the support they have given us – so it’s great that they are now our Charity of the Year.”

Ryan Heal, Chief Executive of Rockinghorse Children’s Charity (pictured above with the bus), said: “Our Charity of the Year partnership further cements the ongoing relationship we have with both parties. The bus companies have great heritage in the city and across Sussex, so we are particularly delighted to receive such fantastic support.”

As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex), and a vital supporter the TMBU in Brighton, and its sister site, the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Haywards Heath, we raise money for life-saving and state-of-the-art medical equipment, while ensuring that children are treated in an environment that is better suited to their needs.

The Rockinghorse bus is out and about on the roads of Brighton, Hove and across Sussex – keep your eyes peeled!
