Two long term Rockinghorse supporters, Search Seven and Firmballs, are teaming up to organise the very first Rockinghorse Ryder Cup and you can join in!

Gavin Willis and Sam Thomas have long supported Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.

Gavin’s fundraising began when he set up his digital marketing company Search Seven in 2011. From day one, Gavin pledged to donate up to 7% of the company’s annual profits to local community projects and charities like Rockinghorse, choosing us as their flagship charity after Gavin’s Godson was cared for at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU).

Sam, Managing Director of Firmballs, began supporting us after his twins Lucy and Sienna were born. Lucy also needed care at the TMBU after being born with a prolapsed cord. After Lucy managed to pull through, Sam made a promise to do as much for Rockinghorse as possible and in January 2021 became our first Parent Trustee.

So, it seems only fitting that during our 55th Anniversary year, these two fundraising titans should pit their wits against each other in the inaugural Rockinghorse Ryder Cup.

This two-day golf event will take place from 7-8 April this year at the East Sussex National course in Uckfield. And along with some lively competition, with the blue team pitted against the yellows, there will be lots of good food and good company, all at a great venue.

Plus, with a 15% donation being made to Rockinghorse from the £250 entry fee, it’s a great way to have some fun and help support a great charity.

Gavin said: Sam and I just love teaming up to put on charity events that can help make a difference, especially for Rockinghorse which means so much to us both.

“This is the very first Ryder Cup style event we have done, and we are really excited – it’s going to be great, and we hope that a lot of fellow Rockinghorse supporters would love to join us!”

Janella Merritt, Head of Fundraising at Rockinghorse, said: “When Sam and Gavin came up with this amazing idea, we were on board straight away! They are both such committed supporters and having them create a brand-new event for our 55th year is great. We know how popular golf days are with our supporters so we’re sure there will be lots of interest in the very first Rockinghorse Ryder Cup!”
