This week Rockinghorse supporters were treated to an exclusive virtual cooking demonstration from Steven Edwards of etch. in Hove which raised over £1200.
During the last few months, with cafes and restaurants closed, we have all missed going out for a nice meal and many of us have been doing a lot more cooking at home. And while it’s always fun to try out new recipes, getting some tips from a top chef isn’t normally an option for the home cook.
But on Monday, 28 Rockinghorse supporters joined an exclusive live cooking demonstration from one of Brighton and Hove’s best chefs to learn first-hand about how beautiful restaurant food is prepared and cooked.
Steven Edwards, winner of Masterchef: The Professionals and chef owner of etch. restaurant in Hove spent Monday evening doing a live demonstration direct from his kitchen, creating a beautiful fish dish from scratch.
The event was able to take place thanks to an innovative online platform from REMO which creates an amazing virtual room where attendees could sit with their friends, watch the live stream and even ask questions during the demonstration.
Everyone who attended the event was sent a bottle of delicious sparkling wine from Butler’s Wine Cellar and a signed recipe card from Steven so they could try the recipe out themselves after the event.
After showing the group how to cook a dish from the etch. menu, Steven spent time with each virtual table, answering their individual questions and sharing his tips and tricks for how to create a successful finished dish.
Along with the demo, the evening also included an introduction from Janella Merritt from Rockinghorse and a raffle to help raise more funds for Rockinghorse. The evening was a great success with over £650 raised from the raffle with the lucky winners taking home some great prizes including a five-course taster meal for two at etch, a fish platter from Fish Galore and two Piglet’s Pantry hampers.
Janella, Head of Fundraising at Rockinghorse, thought the evening was a great success: “It’s been difficult to work out the best ways to get our supporters involved during lockdown, so we are really pleased to have developed this great online event.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to all our sponsors and to Steven for being so supportive and giving everyone an absolutely fantastic, one-off experience, one which they will never forget. We’re hoping to be able to do more events like this in the future with other chefs across the city, especially as we now know how successful they can be.”
Many thanks to Steven Edwards for all his time and effort and to My Network Club for hosting this great event. And thanks as well to Fish Galore, City Utilities, Retail Distribution Services and Piglets Pantry, who kindly sponsored the event and provided some of the great raffle prizes on the night.
