Clothes collections raise thousands
Our clothing bag scheme has raised an incredible £13,300 for sick children in Sussex.
We’ve teamed up with Street Runners Ltd, who have been collecting unwanted items on our behalf with their door-to-door collection bag distribution service, throughout the last year.
Clothes, shoes, accessories, books, toys and other bric-a-brac, have been collected from residents, schools and businesses across Sussex over the last 12 months. At least £90 per tonne is donated back to us, with over £13,000 having been raised in just one year.
Street Runners Ltd have also installed six Rockinghorse clothes banks across the county, where supporters can take their unwanted items. The clothes banks are located at:
Westows World of Play, School Road in Hove, BN3 5HX
Northlands Wood School, Beech Hill in Haywards Heath, RH16 3RX
Georgian Gardens School, Guildford Road in Rustington, BN16 3JJ
Philip Howard School, Elm Grove in Bognor Regis, PO22 0EN
St John Mead School, Rowsley Road in Eastbourne, BN20 7XS
Tom Thumb Nursery, The Avenue in Eastbourne, BN21 3YA
Esther Lam, Charity Liaison Officer at Street Runners Ltd, said: “It has been a fantastic year in partnership with Rockinghorse. The response we have received has far exceeded our expectations, and we are very grateful for the generosity of those who have donated. We believe that next year we will continue to go from strength to strength and exceed the £13,300 raised this year. We are excited in continuing the partnership and will be piloting new schemes within the coming year to generate even more vital funds for this extremely worthwhile local charity.”
Louise Bartha, Individuals and Campaigns Manager at Rockinghorse, added: “We are extremely pleased with the amount of money raised through the first year of our collection bag service, in partnership with Street Runners Ltd. The support received has been overwhelming and we’re looking forward to continuing our relationship with Esther and the team as we build up to our 50th year in 2017. Thank you to everyone who has donated.”
We are the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton, and a vital supporter of the neighbouring Trevor Mann Baby Unit and its sister site, the Special Care Baby Unit in Haywards Heath. We raise money for life-saving and cutting-edge medical equipment, whilst ensuring that children are treated in an environment better suited to their needs.
