Charity footy match nets thousands
Supporters put their best foot forward last week at our charity football match held at the American Express Community Stadium in Falmer, home of Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Rockinghorse 50th Anniversary Charity Match saw 32 players take part in an 11-aside football game on Tuesday 23rd May. The home and away teams were managed by Albion legend Paul Rogers and they played a 90-minute game on the pitch, with the home team winning 5-0.
Friends and family were invited to spectate and a charity raffle was held with a chance to win many great prizes, including a signed Brighton and Hove Albion football shirt, dinner for two at Malmaison in Brighton Marina and family passes to the Sea Life Centre Brighton. Following the match, players enjoyed a drink at the post-game awards presentation and it was announced that £4,500 has been raised towards our 50th anniversary appeal; Sussex Giving for Sussex Children.
We aim to raise £500,000 this year to help 10 children’s centres and paediatric services across the county. One of the projects benefiting from the appeal and funds raised from the charity football match is The Connor Saunders Foundation. We are providing funding for 20 defibrillators which will be placed in schools around Brighton, Hove and the surrounding areas. To find out more about the projects, please click here.
Simon Gregg, Regional Corporate Fundraiser at Rockinghorse, organised the charity football match. He said: “The day went extremely well with some great football played and goals scored which made for an enjoyable and fun experience for all involved. A huge thank you to the players for taking part and to everybody who came along to spectate. We raised a fantastic amount of money for our 50th year appeal, so thank you to Brighton and Hove Albion and the match officials for helping to make the day a success.”
