The Bears Big Bash raised over £15,000 for Rockinghorse.

High-octane motorsport event ‘The Bears Big Bash’ was held at Arlington Stadium near Eastbourne earlier this month (Saturday 13 July).

The annual charity fundraising event was organised by Rockinghorse supporter Michael Burnage, and national banger racing team ‘The Bears’. Appealing to motorsport fans of all ages, the banger racing evening which was attended by a record breaking crowd, raised an incredible £15,631 for Rockinghorse!

We fundraise to make life better for sick and disadvantaged babies, children and teenagers in Sussex. Funds raised from The Bears Big Bash has enabled us to purchase at least two more defibrillator machines for the maternity ward at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (the County) in Brighton.

6,000 new mums give birth at the County every year. Having access to potentially life-saving cardiac equipment such as defibrillators, is extremely important for both mum and baby. Cardiac arrest in pregnancy and during birth is rare but does occur in 1 in every 12,000 admissions.

Since 2013, The Bears have raised an incredible £147,000 for Rockinghorse!

Putting back into the community

Michael Burnage MBE is an ambassador for Rockinghorse and organises the annual charity banger racing event. He says, “The grass roots motor racing community is an extremely generous one. Our event has now become such a large and important part of the racing calendar. It attracts drivers from right across the UK, and now even Holland.”

“Being local lads ourselves, all from Brighton, it is extremely important to us to put back into the community in such a positive way. Each year this drives us on to raise even more money for such a vital charity that makes a real difference to the lives of sick children in Sussex.”

Hollie Trezise is the community fundraising manager at Rockinghorse and is delighted with the amount raised. She says, “We are absolutely over the moon with the money raised from The Bears Big Bash. Year after year they continue to support our charity by hosting the event and we are always amazed by their generosity.

“Our thanks to Michael Burnage and The Bears national banger racing team for their wonderful support. Their fundraising makes such a difference to the lives of poorly babies and children across Sussex.”

Since The Bears Big Bash event began in 2013 it has raised an astounding £147,000 for our charity. The funds raised has helped to fund vital and cutting-edge pieces of medical equipment. You can find out more about our projects by clicking here.
