A letter from our new Royal Patron

We were delighted to receive a letter from our new Royal Patron, Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra, following her visit last month.

In celebration of our 50th anniversary, the Princess made a special trip to Sussex to visit the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) in Brighton (pictured above). The commemorative visit marks not only 50 years of Rockinghorse as the hospital’s official fundraising arm, but 10 years of the ‘new’ Alex.

In the letter (pictured below), she expresses her enjoyment of the visit on Wednesday 19 July and highlights the dedication of the hospital staff as well as thanking young patient, 4-year-old Esmae Violet Hocken, for presenting her with a pretty posy (pictured above).

Her Royal Highness accepted the role of our Royal Patron following the sad passing of Lady Herries earlier this year – our one and only charity patron for 50 years. Lady Herries (previously known as Lady Mary Mumford) was Princess Alexandra’s Lady-in-Waiting and was personally asked by Rockinghorse founder, Dr Trevor Mann, to be patron of the charity.

To mark the royal visit, we presented Princess Alexandra with a bespoke gold Rockinghorse brooch, handmade by our friends at Posh Totty Designs, which she mentions she will treasure. The visit has certainly given us some wonderful memories to cherish and marks what has already been a fantastic Golden Jubilee year for Rockinghorse.
