Offering your time is a fantastic way to support Rockinghorse during the festive season.
We’re recruiting Christmas elves to help us bring a sprinkle of festive magic to the children and their families who’ll be in hospital over Christmas this year.
There are so many ways to get involved in our programme of events and initiatives. By donating just a few hours of your precious time, you’ll make a huge difference to our community this festive season.
Coordinating collections and deliveries
This is one of the most time-consuming but important tasks of the festive season. We need reliable volunteers, who are happy to drive around the local area, collecting donations from corporate partners, and dropping items off to the children’s healthcare settings that we support.
We know from experience that we’ll need a small army of elves to help us out with this, sometimes at short notice, because we get so many generous donations of advent calendars and assorted gifts throughout December.
Volunteering for the Santa Dash
Cheer our merry band of Santas as they run 5km along the promenade in Hove, head to toe in red and white.
This year, the Santa Dash takes place during the morning of Saturday 6 December along Hove Prom, and we’re looking for people to cheer on the runners, hand out medals and coordinate refreshments.
Wrapping presents in Churchill Square
Each year, we set up a Giving Tree in Churchill Square during November and December, where passing shoppers can donate to Rockinghorse.
In return, our trusted volunteers gift-wrap their presents for them. This is a great way to generate valuable funds for Rockinghorse, whilst helping out the local community with the pesky task of getting all the presents wrapped and ready for December 25th!
Happy hamper helpers
During December, we’ll need the support of volunteer elves to help our team to build beautiful “Thank You” hampers for the wonderful healthcare professionals at The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital.
We’ll also need help putting together 100 hampers full of delicious festive treats for families spending Christmas in hospital, or those being discharged on Christmas Eve, who might not have had time to stock up at home. Every year, these hampers receive rave reviews, with families saying they make them feel seen and heard during such a difficult and emotional time.
Christmas Day Angels
Each year since 2013, we’ve worked with trusted partners to bring a delicious and nutritious Christmas dinner to families spending December 25 in The Royal Alexandra’s Children Hospital.
Hospital isn’t a great place to be at the best of times, and on such a special occasion, it can be really disheartening to be stuck on a ward. So, for a few hours over lunchtime, a small band of volunteers come together to serve a beautifully catered spread to families and staff.
We understand that giving up time on Christmas Day itself is a big ask – but we’re hoping to find some kind individuals to help us carry on this tradition for 2025.
