Sensory garden
Orchard House in Cuckfield is a centre for children and young people with complex and severe disabilities. The centre, which is supported by local children’s charity Rockinghorse is part of West Sussex County Council’s provision for children with disabilities. It provides short breaks for 36 young people.
Rockinghorse wants to redevelop part of the large garden to provide a sensory area for all the children at Orchard House. The new plans include an interactive water play area and an accessible pathway and bridge, which will enable the children to explore all areas of the garden securely and safely. They will also be able to enjoy a full range of sensory opportunities, including brightly coloured flowers and a herb garden. Water play is something that the young people have frequently enjoyed and it will really aid their development, stimulating all their senses.
“For Henry, the garden will make a huge difference,” one parent told us. “He is fascinated by different textures and smells. It will be another way of keeping him entertained and stimulated which means that his behaviour will improve.”
Rockinghorse is half way towards reaching our £20,000 fundraising target for the garden, but we need your help. With your support, we can ensure this garden is available for the young people to use, enjoy and benefit from this year. You can really make an impact on the lives of local children and their families.
