Charity Dragon Boat event postponed
The Rockinghorse Dragon Boat Festival at Brighton Marina which is due to take place this Sunday (14 May), has been postponed.
We have been informed that swans are nesting in the waters at Marina Square, where the races were due to be held, and as a result, the management team at Brighton Marina have been advised to postpone the event so the birds remain undisturbed.
Brighton Marina have issued the following statement: “Unfortunately, Brighton Marina are unable to host the fantastic annual Dragon Boat with Rockinghorse organised on the 14th May 2017, due to Swans that have recently come to nest on the race route and now laid eggs. As native birds, swans enjoy statutory protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and such an event could cause damaging disturbance. We are keen to continue our support and welcome another date for the event.”
For all those that were taking part or planning to attend the event, we will be issuing a rescheduled date as soon as possible, so please bear with us. We appreciate that it is not ideal for the event to have been postponed at short notice, and apologise to our supporters for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you for your understanding,
