Rockinghorse launches charity appeal at Eastbourne short break centre
Thursday 3 June 2010
Rockinghorse has launched its appeal to raise funds for an outdoor
activit
y area at The Bungalow Short Break Unit in Eastbourne.
The £25,000 project will include the purchase of adapted ‘fun gym’ equipment, specifically aimed at teenagers who use the centre, along with re-landscaping part of the existing garden. The young people will benefit greatly from the equipment, which will offer both physical and sensory stimulation while at the same time providing a fun and enjoyable environment.
Julie Champion, a mother of one of the young people who visits the centre, said: “As a mum of a young lad who has regular stays at the Bungalow, I would really like to say a very big thank you to Rockinghorse for becoming involved to add to the already great facilities, and therefore, the experience for the children who go there.
“The planned new outdoor activity area is just what the garden needs, and personally, for my son, it will be a huge hit - he is rather hyperactive and needs to use up energy in appropriate ways! Also, importantly, it will provide the wonderful staff with an activity that is much needed.”
The
Bungalow is a specialist residential unit offering overnight short breaks as
part of the East Sussex County Council provision for children and young people
with disabilities. The Bungalow provides a service for young people aged ten to
nineteen.
Helen Simmons, Unit Manager for the centre, attended the launch, which is the charity’s first fundraising appeal in Eastbourne. She said: “Young people usually come to stay at the Bungalow to give their families a break. It is important to us that they look forward to their visit, and have a great time whilst they are away from home. This equipment will enhance our garden and will enable users to be active whilst having lots of fun.”
There are a number of ways you can help make life better for sick and disabled children in your area. Whether it be by taking part in a challenge event, such as next year’s Brighton Marathon or a skydive; signing your business up as a Rockinghorse Corporate Champion and committing to raise £1,500 over the course of a year; or simply volunteering your time: there is a way for you to get involved.
