Marathon men

Monday 26 April 2010

Two men from Sussex have taken on the challenge of a lifetime by completing three marathons in two weeks, all in aid of children’s charity Rockinghorse.

Jason Martin, 40, from Seaford and Adam McIntyre, 26, from East Grinstead began their extraordinary feat in Paris and then went on to take part in the inaugural Brighton Marathon on 18 April. They completed their hat trick of marathons on Sunday (25 April) at the London Marathon.

The running duo, who work for Rentokill in Crawley, has already raised over £4,000 in sponsorship for the charity that makes life better for sick children in Sussex. The total includes a donation of £2,000 from their employers, who promised to match sponsorship raised.

Both set their best times at the Brighton Marathon, with Jason coming in at four hours and seven minutes and Adam beating his previous record and crossing the finish line in 5 hours and eighteen minutes.

Jason said: “Before Paris, the task we’d set ourselves seemed daunting, but we made it through and really enjoyed ourselves. London was by far the toughest, but Adam still beat last year’s record by over an hour, which is a fantastic achievement.

“When you’re struggling to go on, it’s the cheering crowds, and the fact that you’re doing it for a worthy cause like Rockinghorse, that keeps you plodding on. We’ve already signed up for the Amsterdam Marathon in October and we have plans for next year. But for now, we’re putting our feet up!”
