Ant Giles walks the South Downs WayThe lead singer of hardcore metal band, Here There Be Monsters, is taking on the challenge of a lifetime in aid of Rockinghorse, the charity that makes life better for sick and disabled children in Sussex and Surrey.

In October, Anthony Giles will be participating in a nine day trek along the Great Wall of China, covering almost 40 miles. He has already kick-started his fundraising by organising a number of activities, including a comedy night, a pub roast dinner and a band charity night.

The singer has also walked the entire length of the South Downs Way to boost his sponsorship, trekking the 100 mile trail from Winchester to Eastbourne in 37 hours over five days. So far, he has raised £1,000 towards his £2,500 goal.

This weekend, Anthony is hosting a summer barbeque at the Pub with No Name on Southover Street. The event will take place on Saturday 21 August from 2-7pm and food will cost £5, with all profits going to Rockinghorse.

He said: “I have wanted to visit the Great Wall since my father first told me stories when I was five or six years old and so it’s great to be able to finally see it while at the same time doing it for a fantastic local charity.

“Everyone has been extremely supportive and I’ve enjoyed organising events and setting myself challenges to reach my fundraising goal. Come along to the BBQ to show your support – it’s going to be a great afternoon!”

The trek takes place from 9-18 October and costs £250 to register. To join Anthony on the challenge contact Emma at Rockinghorse on 01273 730286. To sponsor Anthony, click here to visit his online fundraising page.
