Companies had a scream this Halloween

Monday 1 November 2010

Rok's information stand at the Arndale Shopping Centre, EastbourneSussex companies have been giving local businesses a scare this Halloween to help raise money for Rockinghorse children’s charity.

Staff from Sainsbury’s in New England Street, Brighton, gave customers a fright by dressing up in gloriously ghoulish Halloween costumes. The store also raffled off a Halloween-themed cake and collected donations throughout the day.

Alongside Sainsbury’s fundraising efforts, three teams from Eastbourne-based building and maintenance company, Rok, dressed up in their most frightening fancy dress and trick or treated their way around 80 companies. The staff members took along goody bags filled with information about Rockinghorse in an attempt to raise awareness and money for the charity, which makes life better for sick children in Sussex and Surrey.

Over £500 was raised through the fundraising activities. Lucy Kilshaw, PR Ambassador for Sainsbury’s, said: “The benefit of helping a local charity is that the end results are there for us to see and, though we hope it won’t come to it, for our children to use. As a company, I feel it is our duty to give something back and while our fundraising efforts were fun, on a more serious note, I hope it will also lead to other businesses supporting the charity.”

Ria Wilson, Corporate Fundraiser for Rockinghorse, said: “We’re so grateful to Sainsbury’s and Rok for their fantastic fundraising ideas. We’re always on the look-out for companies to get involved, so please get in touch if you can help.”
