Drum up support for Rockinghorse at the Dragon Boat Festival

Friday 27 August 2010

Paddlers in a chinese-style Dragon BoatRockinghorse is appealing for teams to take part in the 13th annual Dragon Boat Festival at Bewl Water in Kent.

Join the charity on Sunday 12 September at the magnificent reservoir in Lamberhurst for a fun-filled day and a great excuse for some team-building, while raising money for sick and disabled children in Sussex and Surrey.

The Dragon Boat Festival, which is organised by Funraisers Infinity, is the largest event of its type in Europe with 100 teams competing over the weekend in 10 dragon boats. Last year’s event was watched by 15,000 people.

Teams of 16 paddlers, plus a drummer, race in Chinese-style dragon boats over a 250 metre course. The winner of the races – along with the teams that come in second and third place – will receive money prizes for their chosen charity. There is also a prize for the best-dressed team and so there’s plenty of opportunity to get creative.

Emma Millar, Challenge Events Fundraiser at Rockinghorse, said: “This is our first year taking part in the Dragon Boat Festival at Bewl Water and we’re really excited about it. We’re still recruiting teams to take part in what promises to be a really fun day out and so if you’re interested, give us a call, and help make a real difference to sick children who are local to you.”

Registration is £350 per team and each team will need to raise a total of £1,000 in sponsorship. It is also possible to enter as an individual by registering for £20 and raising a further £60 in sponsorship. Individuals will then be grouped with other fun-loving paddlers to create a Rockinghorse team. The event is from 10am-5pm and return transport will be provided to those travelling from the Brighton area.
