Bungee on the Beach goes green
Tuesday 21 July 2010
Poison Ivy and Brighton & Hove Councillor Alex
Phillips (Green) will be taking the plunge this weekend (24 and 25 July) in
celebration of Bungee on the Beach ‘going green’.
Rockinghorse children’s charity and the UK Bungee Club are teaming up once again for the event’s fifth year on Hove Lawns, which promises to be the biggest yet.
In keeping with the green theme, cityclean will be providing recycling bins for the event, including clothes and toy recycling bins. The charity will also be reducing its carbon footprint by choosing two locally-sourced bars, which will use recycled cups and will also have a cup deposit scheme to encourage people to return their cups to the bar.
Alex Phillips said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in this event, which looks set to be the biggest and greenest Bungee on the Beach so far!
“It’s great that Rockinghorse has been so imaginative in its fundraising efforts, and I’m glad to see that they are striving to make the day as green as possible. Hopefully the weather will hold up – I’m thoroughly looking forward to it, albeit slightly nervously!”
There will be entertainment on both days to keep friends and family busy, including a gyroscope and climbing wall, a French market, a children’s inflatable assault course and a face-painting stall. Alongside the entertainment, Rockinghorse is holding a competition for the top three fundraisers who bring in the most sponsorship money for the event. This year, first place will win a flying lesson.
Humpty Dumpty, DangerMouse, Buzz Lightyear, a bumble bee and a burlesque dancer will also be jumping in aid of Rockinghorse, the charity that makes life better for sick and disabled children in Sussex and Surrey.
Emma Millar, Rockinghorse Challenge Events Fundraiser, will be jumping dressed as eco-terrorist Poison Ivy. She said: “We’re so pleased that so many people are getting together to support the charity and we’re really grateful to the Green Party and to cityclean for helping us to go green. We hope to see you there on the day!”
Registration is £10 and all applicants must raise a minimum of £100 in sponsorship to jump. Rockinghorse has a limited number of spaces available; to register for a place or to find out more, call Emma Millar on 01273 730286.
